Last night was our second annual Family Fun Night, a collaboration between Early Childhood Partners of Hamilton-Wenham & Manchester (CFCE), Miss Witzig's Child Development Class at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School, and the Wenham Museum.
The Child Development class at the high school is a semester long elective and students are introduced to the early education field. The students spend time in classrooms within the school district and they get hands on experience on what it is like to work with young children in a developmentally appropriate way.
At the end of the semester the class facilitates Family Fun Night as a large group project. The Early Childhood Partners office supplied them with materials from Read & Rise ™ and the Brain Building In Progress initiative so that the students could consult Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) approved literacy curriculum and initiatives to inform their planning. The students come up with a theme, this year it was Home Sweet Home, and they create activity stations that they facilitate for parents and their children ages 0-8.
Last night there was building and mapping! Blocks, games, puzzles, art, stories and a good time had by all.
Thanks, Wenham Museum, for being a gracious partner and host! Thank you, Miss Witzig and students! Thank you, Lorraine at Hamilton-Wenham Library for suggesting and lending theme related books! Thank you, Early Childhood Partners Families and all from HWRSD that came out to participate and Tweet out all of the good work we are doing.
