Last week at Sweet Dreams Story Makers we made glitter glue art. Just drizzle glue on paper, fold and press, and open it up to see what happens. This activity strenghtens tiny hand muscles by squeezing the glue bottles and it develops fine motor skills when we encourage the child to gently hold the ends of the paper to open it up. It develops literacy skills as we engage in conversations and stories about the art. Is it a bug? A butterfly? An umbrella? Why do you think that? What happens if we add more paint? Let's do another. Parents and children participated together in this activity for a half an hour. It took me a while to wipe the glitter glue off the tables, but it was worth it. -Lisa
Our M Is For Museum (THIS FRIDAY!) and Countdown To Kindergarten partner, Wenham Museum, has three events going on this week.
Big Summer Fun Week!
The American Travelling Morrice is coming to town, and you'll definitely know it when you see it! This group of Morris dancers has appeared each summer for 40 years in various locations on the East coast, performing vigorous traditional village dances from the English Cotswolds.
This summer from August 7 to 13 they will perform in more than twenty locations in Essex County. Tuesday, August 9, they will be at the Wenham Museum at 1:30 for a FREE show outside the museum.
Baseball and Books, Thursday, August 11 from 5-7pm, Summer Reading Ambassador, Author Illustrator, Matt Tavares will draw & talk about his award winning baseball books. Get books signed by Matt Tavares, Pre-game for the Red Sox – Yankees game, with selections from Street Treats Ice Cream Truck. Event free with museum admission
“M is for Museum”
August 12th 10:30 at the Wenham Museum
Boxes and Boxes
We will read some books about buildings and then construct a city of boxes. Add signs and elevators and swimming pools… whatever you can imagine.
Make sure you register through the CFCE office for this program. Simply click on the Online Registration tab on this blog under Playgroups & Enrichment.
Gentlemen, please join me for an opportunity to get together and get to know each other while our children ages 0-5 play under our watchful eye!
Moms, you can join us and sit off to the side in lawn chairs. It's a win-win! Tired moms can socialize and share tips, while dads can do the same while the kids play together. I don't know about you, but it comes across as a surprise often when a dad spends time with his child alone and has fun! Let's get some like minded dads together who value this time with their children and also rarely have any time for the "guys." I hope to see you there. Let's set the standard for dads who love to play!
-Jason L (Wenham, MA) dad to Emma Grace
The next Dad's Night Out is on Friday, 7/15, at Patton Park on Bay Road, Hamilton, from 5:15pm to 6:45pm. Participation is FREE! Click on the picture of Jason & Emma Grace to learn more. Bring blankets, toys, a snack, and come and hang out. This is a drop-in and casual gathering, but if you think you will make it, please give us a shout out on the blog, Facebook, or Twitter. This group is new and we could use your help in getting the word out! Dad's Night Out is a lead by Local Dad's, and coordinated with the assistance of Early Childhood Partners, and the Hamilton-Wenham Recreation Department.
There are a few Diaper Drives going on in the Hamilton-Wenham & Manchester area. If you wish to bring a diaper donation to the Brain Building In Progress Night at Hamilton-Wenham Library on 4/12/16 we will make sure that the diapers are delivered to the Board of Health.
The Hamilton-Wenham Boards of Health, in conjunction with Acord Food Pantry, are holding a Diaper Drive to assist families in need. All donations are greatly appreciated!
New and unopened diaper packages only. They especially need sizes 3-6. Collection dates are April 1-27th at
