Self-confidence rises out of a sense of achievement. Children become self-confident when they show competence in an area, whether it be cutting with scissors or finally walking across the room. Words of praise and encouragement help to raise self-esteem, but self-confidence comes from the moments that a child suddenly realizes, "I can do it!"
