Eva is at the Hamilton-Wenham Library getting set up for The Process Art Workshop at 10:30am. School is on so we are on! Last night was the Process Art Workshop at the T.O.H.P Burnham Library in Essex and it was a blast. Here are some of the paintings from last night. This is a great class for toddlers and preschoolers, all ages, really. Last night was a small group, but we had two 2 year olds, a Kindergartener, and a First Grader. We had fun! The children created and had conversations about school, their art, and songs they like to sing. Art brings us together.
The technique: Scrunch up a piece of paper. Paint it with watercolors. Open it up to see your masterpiece. This activity is fun, strengthens little hands (the scrunching), and develops fine motor skills (the painting), and develops a sense of creativity, excitement, and wonder (when you open up the paper). Try it at home!

12/6/2016 0 Comments Glitter Glue Art!Last week at Sweet Dreams Story Makers we made glitter glue art. Just drizzle glue on paper, fold and press, and open it up to see what happens. This activity strenghtens tiny hand muscles by squeezing the glue bottles and it develops fine motor skills when we encourage the child to gently hold the ends of the paper to open it up. It develops literacy skills as we engage in conversations and stories about the art. Is it a bug? A butterfly? An umbrella? Why do you think that? What happens if we add more paint? Let's do another. Parents and children participated together in this activity for a half an hour. It took me a while to wipe the glitter glue off the tables, but it was worth it. -Lisa
11/13/2015 0 Comments Saturday Story Makers!Saturday Story Makers is back after a two week hiatus. There is a slight change. The group now starts at 10:30am. Hope you can make it!
We had a great time on Monday at Music, Books, and More at the Memorial School in Manchester. We read Hands Can by Cheryl Hudson, we Somewhere Over The Rainbow and The Alphabet Song (both by special request), recited poems, and we made fun art!
First, the children traced their own hands and then practiced cutting out the shape. We then decorated them using tissue paper, glue, crayons and markers. Scroll to the end of this post to see the original art. By the way, the group is open to all. It is in Manchester, but families from Hamilton-Wenham are welcome to attend. Friends from other towns, too. It is open to all. We meet on Mondays at 1:45pm. Send me a note if you want to join. Email Lisa at e.cheney@hwschools.net We are changing the ending time of Music, Books, and More at Memorial School in Manchester to 2:30. This change will allow us to leave the school parking lot before dismissal and school busses. Since there is so much construction going on in the area this will make things much easier.
Music, Books, and More is a parent/child playgroup geared for children ages 3-5. We sing, read stories, and make messy, process-based art. Afraid to spill glitter on the floor at home? We have that covered. This group requires registration and we must meet a minimum enrollment to run. If you wish to join us, please register! We hope this time change will make it easier for people to attend. Call Lisa at 978-468-5489 or email at e.cheney@hwschools.net if you have any questions. Hope to see you there! Today was the first M Is For Museum of the season and the children and parents explored Apple themed books and made Apple Prints. Enjoy! M Is For Museum is the second Friday of each month at Wenham Museum, a donor and visitor supported non-profit institution. The children who attended Outside At The Museum created an outdoor musical sculpture that is exhibited at Wenham Museum as part of Art Grows Here, July 18-27. Check out www.ArtGrowsHere.com for a map guided tour of arts in Hamilton-Wenham.
Last week at our Little Explorers STEM group on Mondays at 11:15 we played in our shadows, read books about shadows, and made puppet theatre out of shadows. Tomorrow we explore magnets!
